Join us at the C.M. Russell Museum Friday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m. to see and hear “Will Rogers” as presented by Dr. Doug Watson. Watson has been portraying the famed humorist, his “aw, shucks” manner and poignant reflections on American society and politics, for over ten years in more than 500 appearances around the United States.
Will Rogers, a good friend of Charlie Russell, was one of America’s most beloved figures of the early 20th century. Part-Cherokee, he was born on a ranch in Indian Territory (later Oklahoma) in 1879. After an early career in Wild Wild shows, vaudeville, and the Ziegfield Follies, Rogers later was a movie star, newspaper columnist, and radio personality. “I joked about every prominent man of my time,” Rogers commented, “but I never met a man I didn’t like.”
Doug Watson, also an Oklahoma native, is a retired English teacher who considers his show a “mission” to keep alive the cultural memory of Will Rogers and to share some his most important ideas. “When I present Will, I believe that I am presenting themes that I want to embrace myself – Will’s commitment to family, to his nation, to his fellow man, and to a better future for all.” The evening promises to be fun and entertaining for all ages!
